The criteria is different for statewide office. VPAP will list those candidates for Governor, Lt. Governor and Attorney General whose announcement was included in reporting by one of the state’s four largest daily newspapers: The Richmond Times-Dispatch, The Roanoke Times, The Virginian-Pilot and The Washington Post. The State Department of Elections will release an official list of candidates who qualified for the ballot at some point after the deadline. Candidates running in primaries must file by March 25. Candidates running in the general election must file by June 8.
