2024 Early Voting by Party: 16 Days Before Election

Early in-person votes cast by likely Republicans are on par with those cast by likely Democrats, based on the estimated partisanship of voters 16 days before the November election. This is a new high for Republicans compared to the same time in past election cycles from 2021 to 2023.

Likely Democratic early voters still hold a more than two-to-one advantage in mail-in ballots, showing little change from previous years.

Notes: Data as of 16 days before the election each year (October 20th in 2024). Virginia does not require voter registration by party, and ballots are not counted until election day, so to obtain estimates of the party of voters VPAP matched the voter IDs in the Virginia Daily Absentee List with data provided by L2 Political, a data firm that uses an algorithm to estimate the likely party of voters based on factors such as past participation in primary elections and demographic information.

Estimates for 2020 were not included due to data limitations with older elections leading to an "Unknown" category greater than 20%.
