2024 Reconvened Session Workload

Today, the Virginia General Assembly is required to reconvene to consider the Governor's amendments and vetoes to bills that passed both chambers during the 2024 regular session. They will be considering a record high number of bills, due in part to Governor Youngkin vetoing 153 bills this session, more than any of his predecessors in the last 14 years. The chart below does not include the record number of budget amendments that must also be considered.

* Count of vetoed bills at start of the reconvened session. If the General Assembly rejects the Governor's recommendations on a bill, then the Governor may veto that legislation, leading to a higher veto count once the reconvened session is over.

Note: Each bill with amendments is counted once, including each budget bill. Amendment count does not include the number of line item amendments within each budget bill.
