Early Voters Missed Biden Surge

If 62,000 absentee ballots are any guide, Virginia Democrats were widely split over the best candidate to challenge President Trump. Then Biden won a decisive victory in South Carolina. Three days later, Biden captured nearly 55% of in-person votes in Virginia, more than double his share in early balloting.

Note: Absentee/early vote results calculated from any locality that reports results through a Central Absentee Precinct. For the March 3 Democratic presidential primary, absentee voting occurred between January 16 and February 29. Early voting in Virginia ended just hours before the polls closed in South Carolina.
