Back to School: School Enrollment

The number of economically disadvantaged students enrolled in Virginia public schools has risen in the past twenty years. More than 4 out of 10 students now meet the criteria for "Economically Disadvantaged."

Notes: The Virginia Dept. of Education defines students as economically disadvantaged if they meet any one of the following:

  1. Eligible for Free/Reduced Meals.
  2. Receives TANF.
  3. Eligible for Medicaid.
  4. Identified as either Migrant, experiencing Homelessness, Foster, or Head Start.
