Business Giving on Hold
Off-year giving by most business-related PACs to General Assembly members is down sharply through the first three quarters of 2020. Economic uncertainty has led some PACs to delay setting a budget for the year and some legislators have postponed fundraisers. Click on lines to see names, amounts.
Note: Dominion Energy was one of the few business PACs that increased donations sharply, from $113,381 in 2018 to $615,500 in 2020. Dominion is not shown above because its 2020 giving would compress the scale.
Source:Campaign finance reports filed with the state Department of Elections.
Methodology:PACs listed are those run by companies and business trade associations that reported giving $20,000 or more to General Assembly candidates in the first three quarters of 2018. The 2018 amounts were drawn from donations reported by legislative candidates. The 2020 amounts for January through June were drawn from donations reported by legislative candidates. The amounts for July through September 2020 totals were drawn from expenses reported by the PACs in their Q3 disclosures.
