Rep. Good Outraised by Challenger McGuire in CD5

Despite having more than a year's head start, incumbent Representative Bob Good fell behind in fundraising to his opponent, State Senator John McGuire, based on the latest reports available through May 30th. McGuire currently holds the lead in the closest U.S. House primary in Virginia, though with a margin of less than 1% between candidates the race is eligible for a recount under state law.

Independent expenditures (spending by outside groups that cannot be coordinated with campaigns under federal law) also favored McGuire. Of the $10.9 million in outside spending, more than $6 million supported McGuire or opposed Good, versus $4.8 million on the other side.
