Governor's Amendments Adopted

When the General Assembly reconvened this year to consider Governor Youngkin's recommendations they only adopted 53% of his amended bills, a record low since 2006.

Governors can propose amendments to legislation passed by the General Assembly. If the legislature rejects those amendments, the Governor is given an opportunity to sign or veto the bill entirely. In this case, if the Governor vetoes, then the bill will die and the legislature is not afforded the opportunity to overturn the veto. Gov. Youngkin has until May 17th to veto the 54 bills where his amendments were rejected, otherwise they become law.
