General Assembly Cash and Amount Raised
House and Senate candidates from both parties had nearly the same amount of cash on hand at the end of August, according to the most recent campaign finance reports filed with the Virginia Department of Elections. While the money in the bank is close, Democratic candidates have outraised Republican candidates overall in both the House and Senate.

Methodology: This visual looks at the four most recent election cycles with all 140 General Assembly seats on the ballot. Amount raised includes the entire election cycle since the previous election. For the House of Delegates this is January 1 of the year before the election through through August 31 of the election year. For the Virginia Senate amount raised covers January first three years before the election, through August 31 of the election year. The dollar amounts exclude transfers between committees controlled by the same candidate and money raised on special elections. Cash on hand as of August 31st in election year.
