Top Donors to Constitutional Officers

Last year, counties across Virginia held elections for “constitutional officers” – five positions that are mandated in the State Constitution. These five positions rank from familiar (Sheriff) to more obscure (Commissioner of the Revenue). VPAP examined campaign contributions reported by nearly 250 candidates for these five offices.

Note: Occupations determined by VPAP based on donor occupation and employer listed by candidates. These nine occupations were selected because they are the top five occupations reported by candidates for constitutional office. Not all occupations are listed in order to save space. For example, “local government employees” are the 6th ranked occupation for donations to Commissioner of Revenue, but they are not listed here because they are not in the top five donors for any constitutional office.
