In VA04 McClellan Outperformed McEachin

In her landslide special election victory, Congresswoman-elect Jennifer McClellan (D-Richmond) won a larger share of the vote in nearly every precinct than her mentor, the late Donald McEachin, had won just three months earlier in the 2022 midterms. In the chart below, blue arrows indicate precincts where McClellan outperformed McEachin in votes cast on Election Day.

Notes: The chart above compares partisan Election Day in-person results from the November 8, 2022 general election to the February 21, 2023 special election in Virginia's 4th congressional district. McEachin died suddenly about three weeks after the November 2022 election. McEachin won 64.9% of the vote in November 2022. McClellan won 74.2% of the vote in February 2023.

For an accurate comparison, Nov. 2022 results from Southampton County were combined for the following precincts:
201 - Boykins and 202 - Branchville combined into 201 - Boykins-Branchville
301 - Capron and 401 - Drewryville combined into 301 - Capron-Drewryville
