Not Many Ticket Splits in 2021

Vote totals for House of Delegate incumbents running last November closely tracked those for the gubernatorial nominee of the same party. The chart below shows the difference in Election Day vote percentages in contested House races where third-party candidates (in House and/or governor races) drew less than 2 percent of the vote.

Source: Election-Day in-person results of the November 2021 election provided by the state Department of Elections. Does not include absentee or provisional ballots. Votes in split precincts were apportioned according to the number of registered voters in each House district. The 51 House districts selected had a) an incumbent delegate running for re-election and b) and votes for third party candidates in the gubernatorial and/or House election totaled less than 2 percent of the vote.
