Record Number of Women Running for VA Senate

Twenty-eight women will be on the ballot for Virginia Senate this November with an "R" or "D" by their name, a record high since VPAP began tracking elections in 1995. The number of major-party women running in the House has declined from a high in 2021, driven by a decrease in the total number of house candidates on the ballot, though it is still high compared with prior years. Despite improvements in the past decade, Democrats continue to field more female candidates in both chambers than Republicans.

Note: Includes women running in a November general election as Republicans or Democrats for the Virginia General Assembly. Excludes candidates who withdrew from the race.
