Lobbying in Virginia

Those who are paid more than $500 a year to influence legislative or executive actions, including procurement, are required to register annually with the state.

Registration requirements do not apply to local elected officials, state and federal government employees, private-sector employees whose job duties do not regularly include lobbying, or those who limit lobbying to formal testimony in public meetings.

Registrations expire each year on April 30. Each year, lobbyists fill out forms intended to disclose the matters they sought to influence, how much they were paid and how much they spent on things such as entertainment. Details
